Nancy Labov, Alumni In Recovery Founder & CEO

For over 25 years, Nancy has worked in the field of addiction and psychiatry as a Registered Nurse and as a Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor. Since the age of 26, she has been in recovery, and having had a family history of alcoholism and substance misuse, she is passionately committed to helping people recover from the disease of alcoholism and addiction. 

Throughout her life, Nancy has sought to work in various treatment capacities to understand the complexity of healthcare needs and services. She began her career as an RN at Mass General Hospital’s neurology unit in Boston and, upon moving to New York, began working on a psychiatry unit at St Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital in Manhattan. After settling in New Jersey, she worked at Bergen Pines/Bergen Regional Hospital on various behavioral health units, eventually moving on to work at Spring House For Women as a case manager and medical liaison in 2013-14.  It was during the latter period she accompanied young Spring House women to speaking commitments at high schools within Bergen County.  It left an indelible impression: The students were connecting with sincere interest to these young women’s stories of drug and alcohol progression and of their addiction and recovery process. The questions they asked were sincere and thoughtful, and many expressed concerns about family and friends.  It was a powerful peer-to-peer interaction creating dialog and identification of feelings. It was at this moment Nancy began to conceive of the idea of Alumni In Recovery.

Nancy has received the Hometown Hero award in 2019 from Congressman Gottheimer,  Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Meritorious Service Award in 2021, the 2023 Celia Weissman Human Services Award of Bergen County, and the 2024 Champion of Peace (Paramus, NJ Rotary Club) a result of her work within the organization.
